Dock analness

When I first got my PowerBook and was getting used to Mac OS X, I experimented, and plainly over-used the Dock (for Windows users, and I suppose KDE/GNOME users as well, its basically a task manager and main menu all in one); these days, after becoming extremely used to the OS X way of doing things (which I still feel is very *nix in spirit) I find myself constantly tweaking and rearranging my Dock, anything that doesn't need to be there or I've since stopped using is scrapped, I've reorganized positions to fit more tightly into "categories" of applications, and even into most used positions, I find it rather odd, when I would never have spent this much time organizing such items as the Start Menu/QuickLaunch under Windows, or the main menu/desktops under KDE.
