C++

A lot of noise has been made, in the CS dept. at uni over the past year, about how managed environments such as .NET/C# and Java present a much more enhanced development experience to programmers..but what about industry demand?

"Enhanced development experience" is wonderful, but if you aren't putting food on the table, it doesn't mean jack.

This job offer for a lead C++ developer shows just how lucrative such jobs currently are in the UK, and other economies.

Without such fundamental knowledge, I doubt many graduates will progress to higher paid fields; but then, all the more money for me and others who prefer to keep their roots planted in lower levels, as well as stretching on high. ;)

I feel like I'm in such safe hands with the "professionals" about..

The so-called British Computer Society, the British bastion of computing and computer sciences, doesn't even know how to setup a general catch-all sub domain wildcard so that visitors who don't include ye olden www sub-domain when typing bcs.org.uk to get to their main site, will be presented with a most un-welcoming "Forbidden" error.

With such amazing high standards of "professionalism", how can I not feel proud of my student membership and affiliation? How indeed.

Longhorn gets neutered?

Microsoft are clipping bits off Longhorn (the next version of Windows if you didn't know), basically making it somewhat like an incremental update to XP..they might as well just call it SP3, and stop with the whole "revolutionary" crap, considering we've already got what they're promising delivered by both Apple in OS X (Panther has a lot of these features, and Tiger will be the full realisation of the so-called "next gen OS") and various OSS projects (mainly aimed at usage on-top/alongside Linux).

"Why don't you just lie down, there's a good lad."

Quick update

I have since discussed the previously mentioned FreeSide updates with previously mentioned people in the know (or at least now they're in the know, before they were just semi-knowledgable), and I will hopefully be announcing things tomorrow night (in between working like hell to get things done more than likely).

Both a good, yet weird, day today..cut my left index finger while shaving (any points for absurdity? No? Damn..), hasn't really bothered me much, but it went along one of the top ridges of the fingerprint, and now hurts like hell while typing..got pointed at and laughed at by a drunken woman on the bus home, with Andrea, nothing inherently wrong with the whole experience, it was definitely funny for everyone on the bus (but that could also have been the rendition(s) of the "Wheels on the Bus"), but incredibly embarrassing..played monopoly for the first time in a decade, was henceforth severely thrashed by Andrea by a factor of 1:2..got soaked on the way home as I hadn't taken a coat with me..and for the piste de resistance, just had a rather amusing conversation about Daleks, Stanna Stair Lifts, and Dame Thora Hird being a radioactive mutant cyborg from another planet hell bent on universal domination, as you do.

Must go get some sleep now, out for breakfast with Andrea in the morning (err, it is the morning, but you know what I mean).

Na-night.
