Download, update, reboot

When did software updates suddenly require so many reboots?

What the hell ever happened to a simple "'kill -HUP`"?

It's a damn good job I've got my 1Mbit DSL line, or all these MSIE and Win2K updates would take me the rest of the day.

Computer Science Department Entry Quiz Part 2

2. What Operating System should a Computer Scientist use?

'a)` Windows.

'b)` Linux.

'c)` The best tool for the job.

'd)` Windows.

'e)` Windows.

'f)` Operating Systems are soooo 1970's, I write all my applications directly into the firmware.

'g)` Green cheese!

50%..51%..52%..52%..52%..argh!

Well I'm afraid I'm ruining my perfect no Windows policy, by installing Windows 2000 ASE, on my Mac, under VirtualPC, mainly to run a specific Windows app (okay, I admit it, it's a game, one that will probably run like crap when emulated, but I don't care).

One thing I have noticed recently, that I hadn't noticed before when installing Windows for obvious reasons, is that the list of files being currently installed reads like a who's who of insecurity.

Just wonderful.
