Random fluff post
New Years Eve Night at my house is, as ever, nice and uneventful.
Just read someone's comment about how a Linux powered rock-solid commercial PC would not be able to compete because it would always be using older technology; in effect this is wrong for two very distinct reasons:
-
The Linux core supporters (dev/code wise) and Microsoft spend about as much time as each other supporting new technology/hardware, maybe not once some time ago, but the gap has shortened drastically as Linux has gained more support.
-
The comment was in reply to an article about a Linux-centric PC, akin to how Mac OS X is the core of Apple's pre-packaged computing products; in this vein, Apple often find their best-selling packages are the "rock-solid computer systems based on older hardware", as this is more greatly supported by their operating system, and more tightly integrated; yet again, Apple's development cycle greatly mirrors the same as those at Microsoft, and those of Linux kernel/distro/add-on/app developers (also note BSD developers, which is only fitting since OS X's core, Darwin, is based on FreeBSD code), as far as hardware/technology pick-up/support is concerned.
With these points in mind, you can place a lot more importance (in the minds of consumers) on tightly integrated hardware and sofrware, regardless of it's bleeding-edge capabilities.
Soon it changes..again
Soon another year passes, for a change it actually matters to me.
Why?
It means I've spent a year and 2 months (give or take a couple of days) with Andrea.
May I say the [same+1] for many many more years to come.
Link posting
Some of you may have noticed a lack of links added on the side of the site, that's mainly because I've forgotten the code I used for the bookmarklet to connect to my links-history webservice, and the code itself is still on my old Sony Vaio laptop, which I have yet to send back still.
Ich bin sehr faul!
Need something..
I feel as if something's missing again, everything else is there in my life, but when it comes to projects and things which keep my mind active outside of every day life, I've had fuck all. Sure there's the usual webcomicry, weblogging, games playing, and stuff-doing, but nothing which has gotten my particular mental interest as of late.
I have a few projects cooking, but not anything that exciting, I really need to get back to working on 1vCMS, but I know once I've started I may just fall into a rut of not being able to code the features I actually want for it (it's a phobia basically).
I and some other first year comp sci students at uni were going to enter the MS Imagine Cup, but I'm not even sure if they're still accepting entries.
